This course is designed for total beginners wanting to learn to make yarn on a spinning wheel. This course is in-person with one main learning session plus class options for follow up troubleshooting. You can learn all you need to know about spinning yarn in the Main Class if that is all you can make. You must have taken the Main Class to be eligible for the follow up classes.
Instructor: Ewethful Kim assisted by Amy!
Main Class: Saturday January 10th, 11am - 4pm
Follow up class options:
Sunday January 11th, 12pm - 2pm
Saturday January 17th, 12pm - 2pm
Just like my online course this will be a step-by-step class going through a series of points to get you to spinning yarn. We will cover the basics of understanding a spinning wheel, the best fibers to start with, and loads of wool information to make learning to spin both fun and educational. By the end of the main class day we will have you spinning yarn on a wheel!
Whether you are totally new to wheel spinning or have tried before and failed, please come learn with us! You do NOT need to have any spinning lessons before this. I started learning to spin on a wheel and learned other tools later so have no fear if you happen to have heard you should learn on a drop spindle first. Not necessary!
You will receive a video in advance to get you just a wee bit started at home before class starts. Please be sure to check your email and if you can email me your phone number after you register so I have a backup way to reach you.
The optional follow-up days are for continuing to learn and troubleshooting issues you may have thus far after the main class. If you are coming in from out of town the Sunday class may be your best option so you don't miss out! If you live closer in you may want to wait until the following weekend so you have extra time to practice at home.
Cost $150. This includes multiple days of learning with an expert, that's me!, (plus her amazing assistant Amy), an intro video to get you started at home and loads of easier to spin fiber processed here at the mill. You will also be offered a 50% discount for my online Learn to Spin class if you feel you want good reminders for at home.
Supplies: It is preferred that you have your own spinning wheel to bring to class (I do have some available for use... read on!). You WILL need to go home and practice and without a spinning wheel of your own that is obviously very hard. That said I do have spinning wheels at the mill that can be used for class but I will ask that you rent one (for a low price) to take home and practice with. Without practice immediately after the class the skills you learned will slip away quickly.
