2 Strings = Not Scarey. Beginning Stranded Colorwork. Sunday September 30, 2018, 1pm-4pm
2 Strings = Not Scarey. Saturday January 26th, 2018. 10am - 1pm
Description In this introduction to stranded colorwork, we will learn the basic moves for handling two strands at the same time, and what is special about the construction of stranded colorwork. We will practice stranding by swatching in class, then begin a stranded colorwork hat pattern. No stranded knitting experience is necessary!
Class Materials Please bring 3-5 contrasting colors of DK weight yarn and 16” (40 cm) circular needle to match, plus a set of DPNs in the same size. Aim for a gauge in the neighborhood of 6 sts/in on size 4 (3.5mm) needles. Gauge is approximate because stranding will change it as we work.
Note: Ewethful carries a wide variety colors of Jamieson of Shetland Spindrift which can be used for this pattern. Just be sure to knit a swatch so you can get correct gauge as you may need to use a slightly larger needle with this yarn. 20% off Ewethful products for this class.
Be able to knit and purl. This is a beginner class to colorwork so no previous colorwork experience is required.
Homework Homework: Determine a rough starting gauge by knitting a single-color stockinette swatch. Using a needle 1 size smaller than the one used for your gauge swatch, Cast On 128 sts and join for knitting in rounds. Work 2 rounds in k1 p1 rib (or edging of your choice).
